Katy knows the world changed the night the Luxen came.
She can't believe Daemon welcomed his race or stood by as his kind threatened to obliterate every last human and hybrid on Earth. But the lines between good and bad have blurred, and love has become an emotion that could destroy her—could destroy them all.
Daemon will do anything to save those he loves, even if it means betrayal.
They must team with an unlikely enemy if there is any chance of surviving the invasion. But when it quickly becomes impossible to tell friend from foe, and the world is crumbling around them, they may lose everything— even what they cherish most—to ensure the survival of their friends…and mankind.
War has come to Earth. And no matter the outcome, the future will never be the same for those left standing.
Epic. Perfection. One hell of a ride. This book was everything I wanted, everything I needed and then some. Seriously. Out of all the books in this series, this is the one that had me laughing the most. Pretty hard to believe, right, because these books have had so many wonderful, hilarious moments but this one - chapter after chapter filled with laughs. Between Daemon and his wit to Hunter and his personality he dished right back out to Luc who has always cracked me up. Not to mention the bromance that is there between Archer and Daemon. Katy even had her moments in this book that made me laugh out loud. I am grateful I read this book in the confides of my own room because if not, people may have given me strange looks in public.
Endings always terrify me, as I'm sure they terrify us all, right? But what makes me even more nervous is when it's a series that means so much to you. It's hard to believe that back in 2011 when I picked up Obsidian that this was the very first JLA book I picked up. Now I look up at my bookshelf to see an entire (and I'm not exaggerating) shelf dedicated to just her books. Blows my mind and really, it feels like just last year when this series started and now, it's all over. However, while endings always have tragedy in them this book could've been a lot worse than what it was. There was one scene that really gutted me and when you get to it you will know which one I'm referring to. Absolutely gutted me as I'm still emotional over thinking about it. I lied. There's two scenes but one is rectified so I'm okay with it, now. I closed my book with a big ass grin plastered on my face. I kid you not. It's one of those books that it ends with so much joy, happiness and most importantly, hope that you can't help but smile. You can't help but feel all the happiness.
There's really not much to say here regarding the characters that I haven't said before. I still have so much love for the characters we've all come to love since the beginning including Daemon (duh), Kitten, Dawson (my love), Dee, Archer, Luc and even Beth, though we don't know her all that well. There are those we still hate, those who have opened our eyes up to the fact that not all Arum are evil. Hell, I don't believe many really are now - it's just their way of life is different.
Have I mentioned all the sexy times in this book? Holy hell, for a YA book, there so much action going on in the bedroom that it makes me blush. Seriously, a steamy book for sure but we were expecting that after Origin, which was very steamy, as well.
I don't know how Jennifer keeps doing it; giving us book after book full of awesomeness and never once getting old. The quality of her writing, her story telling and her characters doesn't change, it only improves and yet, each book that comes out (whether part of this series or not) surprises me. She is an auto-buy author for me and if you've gotten this far in the series, I'm guessing it's the same for you.
Now, when will I get some free time to re-read the whole series with no waiting in between? It's what I really, really want to do. One of these days, I'll get to do it. Until then . . . I'm going to go dream about aliens.
