Hunting Lila by Sarah Alderson Review

Hunting Lila by Sarah Alderson
(Lila, #1)
Release Date: August 5th 2011
Publisher: Simon and Schuster UK; 318 pages

17-year-old Lila has two secrets she’s prepared to take to the grave. The first is that she can move things just by looking at them. The second is that she’s been in love with her brother’s best friend, Alex, since forever.

After a mugging exposes her unique ability, Lila decides to run to the only people she can trust—her brother and Alex. They live in Southern California where they work for a secret organisation called The Unit, and Lila discovers that the two of them are hunting down the men who murdered her mother five years before. And that they’ve found them.

In a world where nothing and no one is quite as they seem, Lila quickly realises that she is not alone—there are others out there just like her—people with special powers—and her mother’s killer is one of them…

You know those books that keep you up until the sun rises and make you unsociable for those hours? This was one of those books for me.

The story pulled me in from the first sentence. I'd been meaning to read this book for months and I'm disappointed I didn't read it sooner.

Lila isn't a normal human being, she can move objects with her mind, but she hasn't told anyone because she was worried how they will take it. So she runs away from London and her father to go live in Southern California where her brother, Jack and his best friend, Alex, live. Thing is, she's in love with Alex and always has been. Jack and Alex work for 'The Unit' but Lila never knew what kind of work they actually did.

This was a fast-paced book and had me from the first word. The romance was even in a good pace (it wasn't too fast or too long). Lila is a character I could relate too. She handled things the way I probably would. Alex and Jack are both characters I came to adore. Their protectiveness over Lila is exactly how a brother and his best friend should be.

I'm excited to read what's coming next, there's so much I want to know and I can't wait. This book ended perfectly, making me come up with so many scenarios that could happen in the next book. I highly recommend this book to those that need that break from werewolves, ghosts, angels, demons, vampires, hybrids etc.
