Book Review: Elemental by Brigid Kemmerer

Elemental by Brigid Kemmerer
(Elementals, #.5)
Release Date: March 27, 2012
Publisher: K Teen (Kensington); 50 pages

Earth, Fire, Air, Water – they are more than you dream.

As an air Elemental, 17-year-old Emily Morgan doesn’t have much power. That’s okay—she knows what happens to kids who do.

Like Michael Merrick. He’s an earth Elemental, one with enough power to level cities. Which makes him sexy. Dangerous. And completely off limits. At least according to Emily’s family.

But her summer job puts her in close contact with Michael, and neither of them can help the attraction they feel. When forces of nature like theirs collide, one misstep could get someone killed. Because Emily’s family doesn’t just want her to stay away from him.

They want him dead.

I'd love to start off by discussing the cover. These covers are so eye catching, with the good looking guys and the bright colors...however, the guy looks way too old to be Michael Merrick. Like at least ten years too old, probably closer to fifteen. That bothers me. I don't know why but it really does. This, however, has nothing to do with my rating of the book. So please don't think it has effected the outcome. It's just me voicing my opinion on that matter...

STORM has been on my radar for awhile and I'm so excited it's finally out! My friend, Amber, who read both STORM and ELEMENTAL recommended I read this before the book, so here I am. It was obviously a quite read, it's a novella. I will tell you, it gets me super interested in the story and the characters, especially the two families mentioned in the novella. The Merricks and the Morgans. It boggles my mind though to see a romance form within fifty pages of a novella, I mean - isn't that usually something we read about, building up in a full length book? It kind of disappoints me but at the same time, interests me to see how this plays out. That's the only thing I'm torn on for this, the already budding romance. We shall see!

It was one of the shortest novellas I've read recently and it definitely has me craving for the book. Sadly, I have to order STORM since all my Barnes & Nobles around are sold out :( Regardless, I am super excited to read STORM!

  1. I emailed your review to myself from Google Reader like forever ago (I do this a lot with many blogs when I can't comment at the time but want to so emailing reminds me), so this is long overdue. I'm really glad you enjoyed it and I think I saw somewhere that you finished Storm. Maybe on Goodreads or Facebook. Anyway, I'm glad both of them were awesome for you and maybe reading Storm explains why things happened so quickly in Elemental?

Also, do you mean he looks closer to twenty-five on the cover? LOL

The other covers bother me, but for another reason. I love all the covers, the colors and the guys are awesome. But after drooling staring at the covers for Storm and Spark for awhile, I'm pretty sure I don't see twins anywhere on those covers or else my vision is screwy!

  2. Yes, I'm kind of thinking that maybe reading this would've been better after Storm? I'm not really sure lol...technically number wise it's before Storm but I dunno. It was definitely different, you know?

What did I say? Gosh, my reviews have turned into a rambling mess lol. He does look older...but it makes sense, actually...after having read Storm.

And I just reviewed Storm today, actually...finished it the other day! LOVED IT! I wanna try to go to Brigid's signing at the end of June...you interested? There's three other authors there?

  3. LOL I'm behind. I'll have to read your review.

Where at in June? That's not the Westminster one is it? Who are the other authors?

  4. The Westminster one was this past Saturday...I would've gone if I didn't have to work. There only author coming to mind is the author of the newly released Enchanted, I think that's what it's called. Which is one I wanted to read...I forget the other two authors (I know, shame on me).

    It's fine...it's not going anywhere ;) lol

  5. Oh well, I just read it lol.

I've heard of Enchanted. I forget who the author is too. I'll have to look it up on her site events page.

  6. Yeah, that's where I saw it at...it's at Hooray for Books, which is very easy to get to. I went to the Spring into the Future tour there :)
